The Lullaby Lane Story

Rising to meet demand for quality childcare

Lullaby Lane Nurseries was founded in 2013 by directors Pauline and Ian Scott, after discussing the possibility of opening their own nursery for several years.

As the working parents of two children themselves, Pauline and Ian were no strangers to the barriers parents faced when accessing childcare.

When bringing Lullaby Lane to life, they said “We understood the difficulties faced by parents and in particular the worries, fears and pressures in ensuring that when you make the decision to return to work that your child is cared for in a safe, loving and warm environment.”

Lullaby Lane Westerton was opened in October 2013, using the building that Pauline and Ian’s daughter Claudia had attended nursery in 8 years prior!

The appeal of the nursery for them as parents was two fold, the intimate, cosy size of nursery and the warm, friendly welcome they had received from the nursery owner and manager.

The warm, friendly welcome became part of our ethos, and has been a core component of our ethos for over ten years now.

The first few years!

Growing into Milngavie

By 2017, we had found our feet and were delighted to be delivering quality, Attachment-Led care to children in the Bearsden area.

The demand for our childcare was continuing to grow, so we decided to expand and open a second branch in Milngavie, sharing with the Bearsden and Milngavie Sports Club.

This larger facility allowed us to be able to provide care for far more children, and being able to care for children up to the age of five years old across our baby rooms, 2-3 rooms and 3-5 rooms.

Over our two branches since 2013, we have cared for over 1,000 children, with each and every single one holding a special place in our heart.

Milngavie memories!

Responding to the pandemic

The Coronavirus emergency was a scary and confusing time for everyone; not least the children who had suddenly gone from the routine of going to nursery to being at home with mum & dad.

We knew the importance of staying connected with the children and families that we had grown to know so fondly over the years prior, so we made a special effort to stay connected over lockdown.

We put together connection bags for the children, including a teddy to help soothe and regulate them while cuddling it, with our practitioners delivering 90 of those bags to families from Westerton and Milngavie.

Online check ins and connections were a routine and essential part of our practice during this time to ensure we stayed connected with our children.

Scottish Apprenticeship Award finalists

Training and development are an essential part of what we do at Lullaby Lane, with bringing practitioners into our nurseries via the Modern Apprenticeship route.

Many of our longest serving family members have come into Lullaby Lane through this route, with some even moving into leadership roles within the nursery after doing so!

Our success and dedication to apprenticeships was duly recognised in 2021 with a nomination in the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, with Lullaby Lane making it to the final.

Though we didn’t win, we were delighted to have been nominated and recognised for our work, including a visit from Amy Callaghan MSP.

Many, many happy returns!

In October 2023, we celebrated our tenth birthday! A decade of delivering quality childcare, connection and attachment to the children of Glasgow is a testament to our ethos, our approach and our people.

The celebrations were enjoyed by the staff and the children, with birthday parties at Westerton and Milngavie. With a cake of course, you can’t have a birthday party without a cake!

We also celebrated our birthday by rebranding; the same Lullaby Lane, with a fresh new look for the next ten years and beyond!

Teeing off number three

Ten years, two branches, over a thousand children and countless memories.

But we never stop growing, moving and developing, which is why as part of our birthday celebrations, we announced we would be opening our third branch at Golf It! at the Seven Lochs Waterlands Park in Hogganfield.

Opening in February 2024, our newest nursery is nestled in the beautiful views and expanses of the park, creating a calming, nurturing and enriching environment for children in the East End of Glasgow.

The next ten years and beyond

Where does Lullaby Lane go next?

We of course want to be able to continue to deliver high quality, Attachment-Led care to every child that comes to Lullaby Lane, but we also want to be able to bring the theory and application of attachment theory to a wider audience.

Educators, lawmakers and the general public would greatly benefit from the core theories and practices we learn.

Starting with the adults present in the lives of young people, a greater understanding of attachment, behaviour and emotions will help us to better understand each other, and create a greater understanding of self.

Our mission is to bring that knowledge and understanding to a wider audience.
